Carrie Everett Obituary,Miss North Carolina 2024, Carrie Everett, dead at 22 from cancer
The state of North Carolina mourns the loss of a luminous spirit. Carrie Everett, crowned Miss North Carolina in 2024, passed away last night following a courageous and public battle with a rare and aggressive gastric cancer. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news, leaving a community to reflect on a life of profound inspiration cut tragically short.
Carrie was a trailblazer whose grace extended far beyond the pageant stage. As the first Miss North Carolina to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), she carried a powerful message of representation. A vocal performance major at North Carolina Central University with plans to graduate in 2027, she embodied the fusion of artistry and ambition. “I can be the first but not the last,” she told CBS 17. “I want young women from all over the state and throughout the country attending HBCUs to know that this opportunity is for them.”

Her vibrant spirit was tested in July 2025 when she was diagnosed with metastatic signet ring cell carcinoma while visiting family in Seattle. Facing the diagnosis with characteristic resilience, Carrie chose to use her voice one more time—to advocate and give back. “This is happening for a reason, and God has allowed me to use my voice to give a voice to others,” she stated, transforming her personal fight into a platform for awareness.
More than a titleholder, Carrie Everett was a beacon of possibility. She demonstrated that crowns and classrooms could coexist, that beauty pageants could champion profound inclusivity, and that even in the face of devastating illness, courage and selflessness could shine brightest. Her legacy is not one of loss, but of doors opened, paths illuminated, and a challenge issued to follow in her groundbreaking footsteps.
Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all who were touched by her extraordinary light. Carrie Everett’s song may have ended too soon, but its melody will resonate for years to come.
