LEWISBURG — A Saturday afternoon crash on Route 15, caused by a teen driver, claimed the life of a 70-year-old Northumberland County man and injured his wife, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The fatal collision occurred around 3:50 p.m. in Kelly Township near Lewisburg. Richard W. Marion of Watsontown was driving north and slowing for a red light at the intersection with Loan Road when his vehicle was struck from behind by a car operated by a teenage driver.

Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn pronounced Marion dead at Geisinger Medical Center at 5:49 p.m., citing blunt force injuries as the cause of death.

Marion’s wife, 69-year-old Valerie G. Marion, was transported to WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital with what police described as minor injuries. State police confirmed both Marions were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The teenage driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, also sustained minor injuries in the collision. The investigation by state police concluded that the teen was responsible for causing the crash.

The incident underscores the critical importance of attentive driving and seatbelt use for all motorists. The crash remains under investigation, though no charges have been immediately announced. The community mourns the loss of Richard Marion as his family begins to cope with this sudden tragedy.
