39-year-old Steven J. Goodnight of Wanette,Man Killed in Head-On Crash on US-177 in Garvin County
GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. – A Sunday morning head-on collision on U.S. Highway 177 has claimed the life of a Wanette man, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported.
The crash occurred when a northbound vehicle, driven by 39-year-old Steven J. Goodnight of Wanette, crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and struck a southbound vehicle head-on. The driver of the southbound vehicle was identified as 52-year-old Michael L. Martin of Oklahoma City.

According to the OHP crash report, both drivers were injured in the impact. Goodnight was later pronounced dead from his injuries. Martin’s condition was not specified, but troopers confirmed he was injured. Officials stated that both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and that neither vehicle carried any passengers.
The incident forced a temporary closure of the highway as first responders worked the scene and investigators documented evidence. The cause of Goodnight’s vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
